Midsummer Place reports record shopper numbers

More than 17 million shoppers visited the centre last year, including a record December total of more than 2.6 million – an increase of 8.5% on 2010. The opening of the sales on Boxing Day drew an extra 16,800 shoppers – a rise of more than 18% on 2010.

 

Midsummer Place centre manager Martin Hindson said: “High Streets and Shopping Centres across the country are, according to recent reports, seeing a decrease in the number of visitors but Midsummer Place is bucking the trend and recording its best figures in its history.”

 

“We are delighted with the results and this will be something we build on throughout 2012.”

 

Midsummer Place’s performance reflects that of thecentre:mk, which reported a rise in pre-Chjristmas shopper footfall of more than 13%. The thirst for bargains continues as the sales move into full swing.

 

Centre director Robert Hall said: “We believe it is our continued focus on the promotion of thecentre:mk as the region’s premier shopping destination that has allowed us to continue the success of previous years.”
